Jardinière aux hérons

For centuries flowers have been used to brighten up a table. From the end of the nineteenth century jardinières were used as receptacles for plants or flowers. Of course it was important to choose plants whose scent was not overpowering so as not to spoil the appetite of the diners. With the introduction of the greenhouse it was possible to decorate the table colourfully and imaginatively throughout the year.
