Jug

1702 - 1714

Jugs with this decoration were made for the English market. The letters AR in the medallion are the initials of Anna Regina, and so must refer to Anne (1665-1714), who in 1702 succeeded her cousin William III (1650-1702) as the Queen of England. Other examples bear the letters GR, WR or CR, all referring to the then reigning English monarch. The handle of the jug, which broke off at some stage, was replaced by a pewter one.
