Mantlepiece hanging
1550 - 1620
Depicted in a décor of flowers and fruit are allegories representing the five senses, from left to right: Touch, Taste, Smell, Sight, Hearing. The representations were inspired by the series of prints 'The Five Senses' after Maarten de Vos ((1532-1603), which were engraved in several versions by Adriaan Collaert (c.1560-1618) and Nicolaas De Bruyn (+1656).
