Handbag with purse
1900 - 1900
The contents of a lady’s handbag have not changed much over the centuries: a powder compact, handkerchief, purse. A handbag is still a convenient way of transporting personal items. This one is striking because it is made up entirely of little metal rings, or chain mail, a technique used for protective clothing in the Middle Ages. The clasp is decorated with a flower motif.
