Design ciborium N°6 'Lamb of God'
1825 - 1865
The body of Christ was stored in the church in a ciborium, i.e. a covered receptacle often made of gold or silver gilt. Design sketches and models were very important aids for silversmiths. Sometimes they based their work on drawings by other artists, but from the eighteenth century onwards they increasingly produced their own designs. This sketch is by silversmith Jan Pieter Antoon Verschuylen.
