Print with dedication from the Aulæ Bavariæ Magnificentia

1715 - 1715

In 1915 a series of ornament print for jewellery entitled the Aulæ Bavariæ Magnificentia was published by Jean-Baptiste Grondoni from Brussels, who was active as a goldsmith, engraver and drawer. The different (incomplete) versions of the Aulæ Bavariæ Magnificentia are kept in the collections of the Stadtmuseum in Munich, the Staatlichen Kunstbibliothek in Berlin, the MET in New York and the Institut de l’Histoire de l’Art in Paris. One loose print was acquired by the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh. However, there were no known prints of Grondoni in Belgian public collections. With the purchase of the dedication print from the Aulæ Bavariæ Magnificentia in 2020, DIVA is now preserving an important piece of Belgian heritage. The print is signed in ink by Grondoni and thus a copy before the printed impressum. On the back the text in ink is possible referring to the initial owner of this print: “J.P. Mesurolle”
