4 hair ornaments

ca. 1999 - ca. 1999

We should look to Japan for the inspiration for these pins. They represent four flowers of the Japanese cherry tree. This art-nouveau comb was influenced by the Japanese style. The devotion to Japanese things known as ‘japonism’ began to emerge in Europe in the second half of the nineteenth century as a result of renewed contacts with the country. Japanese objects were imported in large numbers and their artistic idiom influenced many aspects of daily life.
