Open work points
DIVA is currently conducting a thorough review of its digital infrastructure with a view to accessibility. The work points that were found by doing this exercise are listed below according to the standardized Work Points List of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG):
1.1 Text alternatives
Non-textual content (e.g. several images have no text alternative). DIVA has looked at the adjustments to solve this problem and aims to solve it in the fourth quarter of 2021.
1.3 Customizable info
"Info and relations", contact page - these pages contain multiple visual elements, without the proper association in the source code. The Newsletter section has an input field, but the label is not linked by an attribute. DIVA has taken note of this problem and aims to solve it in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The similarities between the visual and what is actually asked for need to be improved - especially with interactive elements, such as input fields. The purpose of the input must (also) be made clear programmatically. If a user has to fill in data in a form, the browser should be able to programmatically determine (for certain data types) which input is expected. DIVA has taken note of this problem and aims to solve it in the fourth quarter of 2021.
1.4 Distinguishing elements
The use of colours & certain contrasts in the articles make some visual effects appear insufficiently clear. Different elements only change colour when the user hovers over them with the mouse. This can cause problems for people who are colour blind (the links in the drop-down menu, the social media icons, and the links in the navigation at the bottom of the page).
Also the reflow (1.4.10) needs to be improved. Enlarging one page will result in a different page. Some functionality and content then disappears behind another element - such as a button in the main menu at the top of the page. Other text disappears completely.
The link targets (2.4.4) are insufficiently elaborated. The goal of each link must be retrievable from the link text or context. This is impossible as long as there is no (alternative) text like the magnifying glass, the icon 'Buy your tickets' and all cards. The purpose of these links is not clear to a group of people due to the lack of a link text.
DIVA has taken note of this problem and aims to solve it in the fourth quarter of 2021.
2.1 Keyboard accessibility
All functionalities on the page must be operable with a keyboard. However, some functionalities are implemented with Javascript without the proper HTML or CSS base.
The order of navigation of a page (2.4.3) must match what you see. At the moment one can use the keyboard to access the links in the language menu and drop-down menu, even if they are not open. This creates a confusing situation for keyboard users.
DIVA has taken note of this problem and aims to solve it in the fourth quarter of 2021.
3.1 Readability
The language of the page (3.1.1) or elements is not always properly captured in the code. This also does not change when the page changes language. For individual words or elements, such as the languages in the language menu, this language must also be specified.
If the language is changed from NL to DE a part of the page changes language (to German), but the menu does not. In the code, the page remains English.
DIVA has taken note of this problem and aims to solve it in the fourth quarter of 2021.
