Lemmens, Jean

The Belgion silversmith and artist Jean Lemmens was born in Dilsen (Province of Limburg) on October 9th 1945. He studied at the Department of Graphic Art at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp from 1966 to 1974. From 1968 to 1974 he combined those studies with a course in silversmithing at the Academy. Wim Ibens was his teacher. He went on to complete his studies at the Instituut voor Kunstambachten in Antwerp (1976-1982), the University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo (1983) and at the Department of Jewellery Design at the Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp (1984-1987). In 1974 he started teaching illustrative drawing in Hoboken (Antwerp) and from 1974 to 1976 he taught at the Sint-Lukaspaviljoen in Antwerp. Jean Lemmens became first a teacher (1981) and then professor (1986) of Jewellery Design & Silversmithing at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten (Hogeschool Antwerp).
