Dewez, Michel Paul Joseph

Brussels silversmith, medallist and bronze caster. Born in 1742 in Halanzy as the son of Antoine Dewez and Marie Le Bochoz. Brother of architect Laurent-Benoît Dewez (1731-1812). Worked in the studio of the Paris silversmith and medallist Jacques Roëtiers (1707-1784). C. 1767 he returned to the Netherlands. In 1770 he served his apprenticeship with the Brussels silversmith Martinus Josephus de Roos. Became burgher and master in 1772. From 1773 till 1794 he was a silversmith at the Court. Married Maria-Catharina Hubert (+ 1794). Teacher of his son Antonius Peeter Arnoldus Dewez (1766-after 1795). Died on the 6th of December 1804.
