van den Broecke, Willem

This Artist, born in Mechelen, went in 1550 to Italy where he stayed for 7 years. He worked as a sculptor, painter, and architect. In 1557 he came back to Antwerp and became a member of the Sint-Lucas guild. One of his brothers was the painter Hendrick van den Broeck (1530 - 1597). When living and working in Antwerp, he got assignments from local and international principals. Between 1566 and 1567 he worked on three sculptures for the Cathedral of Antwerp. He died ca. 1580 in Antwerp.
