Anthony, Jean Michel

Antwerp silversmith. Jean Michel Anthony (1788-1862) was a son of Michael Jacobus Anthony and his second wife Carolina Wilhelmina Mienens. In 1811 he was a pupil of silversmith Jan Baptist de Keyser and in c. 1822 he took over his workshop. In advertisements of his grandson Emile Anthony however, 1826 is referred to as the firm's foundation year. In 1819 Jean Michel married Anna Maria Verhoeven. He first set up his business on the Grote Markt 'Au Pelerin' and afterwards in the Maalderijstraat.
