Dresser, Christopher

Christopher Dresser was born on the 4th of July 1834, in Glasgow. From 1847 until 1854 he studied at the School of Design in London where he became a professor of artistic botany in 1855. He published several studies on the decorative arts. Because of his knowledge of design and Japanese art, he played an essential role in the English Aesthetic Movement. During his life, he worked with important figures and for large firms such as Huskin & Heath, Elkingtons, and James Dixon & Sons. In addition, he also designed utensils for the general public, using new techniques and mass production. He passed away on the 24th of November 1904, in Mulhouse.
