Ulla & Martin Kaufmann

1941/10

Ulla Kaufmann-Kohlenberg and Martin Kaufmann have lived and worked together for more than 40 years. Both were born in Hildesheim in 1941. Ulla studied silversmithing with Theodor Blume in Hildesheim from 1959, where she passed the apprenticeship test in 1962. Martin studies goldsmithing at Sillium from 1958 until he takes the apprenticeship test in 1961. He then works with Theodor Blume in Hildesheim. Between 1963 and 1966, both Ulla and Martin work with a goldsmith in Norway and France. In 1970, they take their mastership test and since then have worked together from their workshop in Hildesheim. From 1986, they regularly worked together with other firms, including the Bremen firm Wilkens & Söhne, for which they designed, among other things, the cutlery 'Palladio', 'Passione' and 'Besteck 2000'. Over the years, they have won many awards with their work, such as the Grassi Museum für Angewandte Kunst's 'Ehrenpreis für das Lebenswerk'.
