Landuyt, Octave

Octave Landuyt was born on the 26th of December 1922 in Ghent. In 1931, he and his family moved to Kortrijk, where he started his studies at the Town's academy. During World War II he had to work at the Erla fabric. In 1944 he was active in the resistance. That year he also started teaching and gave drawing courses. After the war ended, he worked as a publicity designer and teacher in the arts. From the 1950s on, he starts to exhibit his work. His work was to be seen in Munich, Berlin, Tel Aviv and the Biennale of Venice. In 1956 he married Raymonda Verhaege. In 1958 he collaborates with the ceramics workshop Perignem. He further explores the medium and creates ceramic sculptures. Throughout his life Landuyt got many awards and mentions of honors, he also participated in international art manifestations.
