Sling- and vacuum casting

Sling- and vacuum casting.  

This workshop gives you the opportunity to make jewellery using the lost wax technique. You will work with wax and learn how to make a wax casting tree, how to plaster the model and burn it out in the kiln. Finally, you will cast using the sling- or vacuum machine. 

Sling- and vacuum casting are two casting methods. Sling casting involves using a rotational or centrifugal force to distribute the molten metal evenly in the casting model. In vacuum casting, you use a vacuum pump to remove air from the casting model, reducing the chance of porosity or other unevenness in the casting.  

During the workshop, you will go through the entire process: from wax carving to casting. Models will be cast in silver or brass.  

Practical  

• Included: wax, rubbers, plaster and brass.   
• Note! Silver is not included. If you want to cast in silver, please bring your own silver.  
• If needed, you can purchase silver from DIVA's limited supply.
