This hair ornament contains a horn-blowing monkey in a covered carriage. It is what is known as a singerie, the name given to a visual arts genre depicting monkeys in human roles. This form of satire of human behaviour started to become very popular at the beginning of the eighteenth century. A hairpin was worn horizontally in the hair on the forehead. This one is attached to a spring so that the jewel can move.
