Bracelet / necklace
1860 - 1860
This snake jewel is a real showpiece. The colourful enamel brings the jewel to life when light is reflected on it. It consists of flexible linked components so it can be worn either round the wrist or round the neck. During the Ancien Régime the snake had a rather negative connotation because of its association with evil, but during the Victorian period the snake motif was a favourite as a symbol of eternal love.
